It was just a regular season game, but it was a special one and really what High School Basketball is all about.
In front of a packed house at Beecher City, the South Central Cougars and the CHBC Bobcats did battle on a Friday night in NTC Action (and it was our WKRV/I70sports Game of the Week). It was their second matchup of the season as the two teams had met in the Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament with South Central getting a 47 to 40 OT win in a really great game. But, it was not nearly the game the second one would turn out to be.
It stayed tight almost the whole way, but South Central had a 40 to 35 lead with about 10 seconds to go. CHBC’s Clayton Wojcik would hit a 3 pointer to make it a 2 point game with about 3 seconds to go. CHBC fouled Max Magnus and he hit 1 of 2 free throws to give South Central a 41 to 38 lead. But, CHBC had just enough time for a little magic.
That sent it to overtime and the game would end up going 2 overtimes with CHBC coming away with the 54 to 48 Double OT win in a game that was really what high school basketball is supposed to be about—a fun time and a great atmosphere.
