Vandalia baseball dropped their South Central Conference opener on Friday, suffering a 6-2 loss to Staunton at home. The Vandals fell behind early, 3-0, after the Bulldogs put up a run in the first and two in the second inning. Vandalia got their first run across the plate in the bottom of the third, as a sacrifice fly to right field by Andrew Kelly scored Kale Conrad to cut the Staunton lead to 3-1. The fourth and fifth would go by scoreless for each team before Staunton doubled their lead with three runs in the top of the 6th for a 6-1 lead. The Vandals scored one run in the bottom of the seventh as Konrad scored the Vandals second run after tagging up at third on a line drive out by Carson Lotz to make it 6-2. That would be it for the Vandals offense though as the Vandals would take the 6-2 loss.
