Indians Take Down Newton to Even Season Record

The Altamont pitching staff scattered four hits across seven innings and the Indians went on a scoring run in their final three at-bats to get a 9-1 win over Newton at home on Thursday. After Altamont allowed one Newton run in the top of the first, the scoring would be hard to come by for each team until the bottom of the fourth inning when Altamont put their first run up on a RBI triple by Keegan Schultz that brought Dillan Elam in from second. Riley Berg then reached base on a fielder’s choice that allowed Schutlz to score and give the Indians the lead, 2-1, and then that lead got pushed to 3-1 when Eli Miller scored on a wild pitch. Altamont continued tacking on runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Elam reached base on an error to score Kaden Davis for a 4-1 lead. With bases loaded, Ethan Robbins drew a walk to bring another run in to extend the lead to 5-1 and then on the next pitch, Kaidyn Miller scored on a wild pitch to make the Altamont lead 6-1 at the end of the fifth inning. Three straight singles to start the bottom of the 6th inning by Davis, Nate Stuemke and Elam added another run for the Indians as Davis came in on Elam’s shot to left field to further extend the lead to 7-1. A fourth straight single, this on from Schultz, scored Stuemke’s courtesy runner Alec Jahraus to push the lead to 8-1. The Indians scoring would wrap up with a sacrifice fly from E. Miller to score Elam to make it 9-1. Altamont would hold Newton scoreless in the top of the seventh to close out the win. Altamont is now 2-2 on the season and will go back on the road today to take on Effingham.
