Girls Wrestling Sectional Brackets are Set, Swyers and Bowers Each Have First Round BYE

The brackets are set for the four IHSA Girls Wrestling Sectionals to be held this weekend in Evanston, Geneseo, Peoria and Schaumburg. Vandalia junior Sophie Bowers and sophomore Brynn Swyers will be competing in the Peoria Richwoods Sectional on Friday evening and on Saturday throughout the day.

In the 125lb weight class, Bowers will be one of four wrestlers in the weight class to have a first round BYE. Bowers will await her quarterfinal round opponent that will come from the winner of the first round bout between Joi Lord of Clinton and Ariel Board of Goreville. If Board would be the winner of that match, it would be a rematch of the first regional semifinal at West Frankfort in which Bowers defeated Board by Tech Fall (19-4) before claiming the regional championship.

In the 140lb weight class, Swyers will be one of five wrestlers in the wight class with a first round BYE. Swyers quarterfinal opponent will be the winner of the first round bout between Rickasia Ivey of Urbana and Baylee Allshouse of Civic Memorial. Just like her teammate Bowers, Swyers could also run into a familiar opponent as Swyers defeated Allshouse by Decision (12-10) in the second semifinal at West Frankfort before she claimed the regional championship.
