Mulberry Grove Snaps 7-Game Losing Streak With Big EIC Win Over CHBC


Mulberry Grove boys basketball snapped a 7-game losing streak, riding a strong first half to an 82-44 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in Egyptian Illini Conference action at home on Tuesday night. The Aces pulled out to an early lead, going ahead 7-0 before the Bobcats would score their first basket of the game. The teams would trade scoring possessions the latter part of the first quarter, but the early run by Mulberry Grove gave them a 17-10 lead over the CHBC at the end of the first. Mulberry Grove would open up their lead in the second quarter, as a 19-6 second quarter run put them up by 20 points, 36-16, at halftime. CHBC would have their best scoring quarter in the third as the two teams played even coming out of the halftime break, as they each dropped in 16 points in the quarter and the Aces maintained their large lead, 52-32, as the game moved into the fourth quarter. The Mulberry Grove offense took off in the fourth quarter as they put together a commanding 30-12 run that would push their lead ahead enough for running clock to be triggered in the closing couple minutes of the game and the Aces finished out the 82-44 win. Mulberry Grove improves to 5-14 on the season and the win marked their first in EIC play as they are now 1-3 in the conference. They will be back at home on Friday when they host Windsor/Stew-Stras. CHBC drops to 10-15 on the season and the loss was their first EIC loss of the season as they are now 2-1 in conference play. The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday when they have a National Trail Conference matchup at home with Altamont.
