The Vandalia girls basketball team competed as a “CIC” school on Saturday as part of the NTC vs. CIC Clash at Altamont High School and fell just short to the Neoga Indians, 71-65. The Lady Vandals worked themselves out to an 18-13 first quarter lead as freshman Taylor Oakes hit for seven points in the quarter on a 3-pointer and a 4 for 4 effort at the free throw line. Neoga would find their offense in the second quarter though and outscore Vandalia 24-13 in the quarter despite eight points from Madison Lupton as the Lady Vandals found themselves down 37-31 at halftime. Lupton kept her offensive momentum going for another eight points, Katie Eckhardt hit a pair of field goals and went 3 for 4 at the line and Oakes hit for five points and the Lady Vandals outscored Neoga to draw the game even at 53-53 heading into the fourth quarter. It would be the Indians with the stronger fourth quarter as they went on a 18-12 run to grab the win over Vandalia, 71-65. The Lady Vandals drop to 4-15 on the season and will begin play in their own Vandalia Mid-Winter Tournament on Monday, facing Centralia at 2:30pm in quarterfinal action.
