CHBC Withstands Martinsville Comeback Attempt for EIC Win


Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City got out to an early lead and then fought off a Martinsville comeback attempt to hang on for a 60-51 win in Egyptian Illini Conference action on Tuesday night. The Bobcats stormed out to a 22-8 first quarter lead but would be outscored 16-10 in the second quarter. Despite the second quarter run by the BlueStreaks, CHBC continued to hold an eight point lead at halftime, 32-24. A back and forth scoring battle in the third quarter would see Martinsville outscore the Bobcats 19-15 and close the CHBC lead to 47-43 to start the fourth quarter. The Bobcats would be able to stretch their lead out just a bit more in the fourth to close out the win, 60-51. With the win, the Bobcats are now 7-10 on the season and are now 2-0 in the EIC. CHBC will be at home again this Saturday as they will host Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville for a 2:00pm matchup.
