Altamont Bounces Back and Takes Third at Sesser-Valier


The Altamont Indians bounced back from their semifinal loss of the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament and used a fourth quarter comeback to grab third place of the tournament with a close 44-42 win over Red Bud on Thursday afternoon. The Indians would trail slightly early on with Kaidyn Miller grabbing two baskets and Kaden Davis and Eli Miller each adding one for Altamont to trail 10-8 after a low scoring first quarter. Altamont was held to just seven points in the second quarter on two baskets by K. Miller and Davis dropping a three-pointer while they held Red Bud to 10 in the quarter for a 20-15 halftime deficit. Miller, Davis and Kade Milleville would all hit from the field and E. Miller added a free throw in third quarter as they kept pace with Red Bud but could not pull within more than two possessions and trailed 29-23 to start the fourth quarter. The Indians would use their free throw shooting to their advantage in the final eight minutes as they were sent to the line eight times. Milleville would hit three field goals, being fouled on one shot and hitting the ensuing free throw for seven points in the quarter while Aden McManaway hit one basket and then went to the lone five times, going 8 for 10 at the line for 10 points in the period. With Davis hitting a basket and K. Miller going 2 of 4 at the line, the Indians hit 11 for 14 at the line and outscored Red Bud 21-13 in the fourth to come from behind for the 44-42 win. The Indians move to 7-4 on the season and will be back in action in the new year when they take on Dieterich in a National Trail Conference battle on January 5 at Dieterich.
