The South Central Cougars picked up a 4-2 win on Wednesday, beating Effingham at home. All scoring in the game came during the early innings with the Cougars opening things up with a three-run first inning. Back-to-back singles by Chase Thompson and Aidan Dodson followed by Anthony Buonaura loaded the bases. After two flyouts gave the Cougars two outs, Brody Markley drew a walk to bring in Thompson for a 1-0 lead and then Callaway Smith reached base on a ground ball error with both Dodson and Buonaura scoring on the play to put South Central up 3-0. After holding Effingham scoreless in the top of the second, the Cougars added another run on a RBI single to right field by Buonaura to score Thompson and put South Central up 2-0. Effingham would get themselves on the scoreboard with two runs in the third to cut the Cougar lead down to 4-2. That would be the only scoring in the game as the next four and a half innings would go by with each team holding the other scoreless. With the win, South Central improves to 17-1 on the season.
