CHBC Grad Robertson Off to Strong Start for SIU Track and Field


Former Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City track standout Jadon Robertson has gotten off to a strong start to his collegiate track and field career at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Robertson and the Salukis track and field team have been on the road the last three weekends getting their indoor season into full swing and competing in Chicago, at Notre Dame and at Indiana. In the Salukis’ first meet at the Wisconsin Badgers Midwest Invite in Chicago on January 13 and 14, Robertson competed in the high jump and finished in 5th place, reaching a height of 1.96m or 6’ 5”. On January 20 and 21, the Salukis would travel to Indiana for the Notre Dame Invitational. Robertson would again compete in the high jump, tying for second place with a height of 2.03m or 6’ 7.75”. Robertson would also compete in his first running event of the season, finishing 4th in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.58 seconds.

This past weekend, the Salukis traveled to Indiana once again, this time going to Bloomington to compete in the Indiana University Relays. Robertson again expanded his events adding long jump for the weekend. Robertson finished in 8th place in the long jump with a best attempt of 6.73m or 22’ 1” and finished in 8th place in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.54 seconds in the finals. For the second weekend in a row, Robertson would finish second in the high jump, this time claiming the spot all to himself with a height of 1.99m or 6’ 6.25” with the only finisher ahead of him for the second week in a row being his own teammate.

Up next for Robertson and the Salukis will be a trip to New York this weekend for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Open followed by a trip to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge on February 10 and 11. After that, they will have their only home meet of the indoor season on February 17 and 18 when they host the annual Don DeNoon Invite at the SIU Recreation Center before the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the Gately Track Center in Chicago on February 26 and 27.
