The Greenville Lady Comet Cheer teams are set to compete at the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association Championships this weekend in Springfield.
The Comets head into the coming weekend after turning in a very strong showing at the Breese Invitational in which the Varsity placed 2nd out of 7 teams and the JV placed 2nd out of 5 teams. The Comets have known they were state bound since December though after they competed at the Highland Competition where both of the teams captured 1st place in the Small Varsity and Small Junior Varsity divisions and qualified for the ICCA Championships.
The Comets will also look to top their fourth place finish in the Small Varsity division that they turned in at the 2019 Championships.
Varsity team members competing for the Comets this weekend are Kaylan Lile, Nevaeh Haas, Trista Kinkel, Elena Valentin, Kyley Sugg, Sophie Warchol, Alli Suess, Abby Wall, Kelsie Hemann, Avery Cantrill, Lily Prater, Lilee Joiner. Varsity team member Abby Wall (junior) will also be recognized at the championships as an ICCA All-State team member. She had to submit a video showcasing her skills to be judged among others across the state.
JV team members competing this weekend are Lexie Griffin, Emma Ketten, Georgia Sussenbach, Laia Klein, Ashley Schauwecker, Jillian Elam, Libby Reavis and Jessica Leihser.
The teams are coached by Amanda Goldsboro (Varsity) and Allyson Loucks (JV).
Varsity will officially compete at 1:23pm on Saturday while the JV will compete on Sunday at 2:30pm.
The competition is being held at the Bank of Springfield Center. For anyone wishing to attend the championships, admission is $7 for students and $10 for adults.
